Ironheart Shiraz
Wine
Yangarra Estate Ironheart Shiraz takes its name from the reddish ironstone soils of its vineyard at Kangarilla in McLaren Vale. Ironheart is the winery's most fluent expression of Shiraz.
Of the individual Shiraz blocks, the Ironheart block, which lies amid a gravelly outcrop, produces the most powerful fruit. The vineyard is certified biodynamic.
The handpicked grapes are cold soaked. With a portion retained as whole bunches, the fruit is wild fermented as whole berries in open fermenters. A regime of plunging and rack and returns follows.
The wine matures on lees for 18 months in one third new French oak. The barrels that best capture the character of the ironstone soils are selected for bottling without fining, just filtration.
Deep red purple, Yangarra Estate Ironheart Shiraz has rich dark fruit flavours, dense sanguine character, earthy elements and forceful tannins. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
